School Updates

  • Welcome and Introduction – Pamela and Gillian
  • Chess Club: Mrs. Lambie will begin a chess club 2 days a week.
  • A new homework club will be running in the library before school in the mornings.
  • Grade 8s will have a yearbook club.
  • Grade 5-8 trip to the ROC Winterfest February 13, 2025.
  • Watson is a math priority school, and we have access to a “YRDSB math consultant” this year.
  • Watson is a literacy priority school, and we will have a literacy consultant working with the school for 4 weeks.
  • Cost share opportunity available with the YRDSB for new tech, goal is to have working tech carts in all classrooms. If school council contributes $1770.00, the board will contribute $7080.00.
  • The clothing drive was successful.
  • Student voice led by Ms. Sedore will help with the dance and will color a board like they did last year.
  • Bike rack on the intermediate side needs to be replaced, this is being investigated.
  • We are receiving apple donations from the Pegg orchard, as well as strawberry plants that we can try and grow indoors.
  • Next meeting: Meetings will usually be on the first Monday of the month. March 3, 2025, and May 5, 2025

 

Lunches

  • Hot lunches are still selling well, and lunches continue to generate funds to support the subsidization of field trips for all classes.
  • Next block of lunches will run from February 3 - March 31-2025.

 

Fundraising

  • Red and White Dance – same format as last year. Will be held on February 12, 2025. Classes have selected their baskets, all items will be collected by Monday, January 20, 2025.
  • Prizes have been purchased: movie tickets, Canadian Tire toys were donated, 2 Switches, Lego, AirPods, Sutton Fair family pack (for a family of 5).
  • School Council will provide glow bracelets and will sell chips/chocolate bar/Gatorade combo at the dance for $5.00.
  • Classes will view baskets/golden ticket prizes on February 6, 2025, and put their tickets in for a chance to win.
  • Popcorn profited $765.00.

 

Financial Report

  • The school council will provide $500.00 for new game balls for the basketball teams.
  • We did not receive the PC grant for the school snack program.
  • We did receive $1000.00 from the Georgina Cares fund, which will be put towards the school snack program.
  • Dance-a-thon money will be put towards tech.
